No. 4 Pittsburgh defeated No. 9 Villanova 57-54 on Saturday night.

The Wildcats hadn't lost at The Pavilion since Jan. 6, 2007.

Antonio Pena tried to win it for Villanova in the final minute. He hit a three-pointer with 58 seconds left to make it a three-point game, then forced a turnover on Pitt's possession.

Dominic Cheek missed a tying three-point attempt and the offensive rebound was kicked out to Maalik Wayns. His shot swished through the net -- a tick after the final buzzer.

Rutgers Upsets Villanova On Four-Point Play

Feb 10, 2011 6:37 AM

Rutgers upset No. 9 Villanova 77-76 on Wednesday night thanks to a four-point play from Jonathan Mitchell.

Mitchell hit a three-pointer and was fouled with less than a second remaining. He hit the free throw to give the Scarlet Knights the win.

"I always tell myself I want the ball at the end of the game. I want it on my shoulders," Mitchell said. "JB [James Beatty] made a great play, got it to me and I let fly and got fouled."

Corey Fisher fouled Mitchell on the play.

"After I hit the shot I couldn't believe it went in," Mitchell said. "They called the timeout and I decided to calm down, relax, breathe. Coach asked me if I wanted to sit down. I'm in the gym shooting at 12, 1 a.m. and I said to myself it's just another night in the gym with the lights out. I stepped up like a senior and made it."

Villanova coach Jay Wright didn't blame Fisher.

"They caught him right in the split second he was denying the pass and it went through his hands and he fouled him," Wright said. "It was perfect execution by them. It happens. He was making the right play."
